Batman #19 - Loved this issue. I went into it after reading a spoiler about who was behind everything. I had a feeling that due to this I would not enjoy the book as much I would have done otherwise; I was completely wrong. This is a very well written story by Synder, and Capullo is once again on top form in the pencils department. I really cant wait to see the conclusion of this; which may be in the next issue. The back up story was also very strong too.

Sex #2 - I am not too sure what to think of this yet. It reminds me slightly of Revival due to the slow build nature of it, however it is much more frustrating. I want to know more than what I am being told, but I can't tell just how desperate I am to carry on with it. There were a couple of scenes in this issue, including the old man and also the one in the apartment right at the end, which I thought were pretty cool.
I am going to pick up #3, but I have a feeling I am never going to be completely satisfied with this series. The first two issues I have been frustrated, but there have been things there to redeem it and keep me interested. This will definitely be an ongoing thing I feel. Dont get me wrong though, this is still a well told story, I just don't know how invested I want to be in it.

The Walking Dead #109 - It was pretty cool how this issue kind of took it easy. We saw Maggie and Sophia for the first time in what feels like ages; which was nice. Jesus also had a bit more of a prominent role in this one too; which is also nice. The ending of this issue also made me desperate to see what the consequences are going to be in the next issue. This is what this series does best. It makes you think that nothing too important is going to take place, and then boom, something important happens. Love it.

Saga #12 - What a great issue this was; which should come to no surprise to anyone. This one focused on the author of "the book" and the royal robot; whose name has literally just escaped me. The confrontation was great, and ended in a way that I did not see coming at all. The last page got me excited for #13...then I found out they were taking a few months off! Vaughan and Staples really know how to leave you gagging for me.

Hawkeye #9 - I love sitting down with this series. I just know that whatever is going to be inside the pages of the latest issue; I will just adore it. This issue featured Clint being visited by all the women in his life following events that have occurred in the last few issues. each encounter was just awesome, and once again the dialogue kept up its knack of me making me smile whilst reading. Even if you don't follow the series so far, you will definitely get something out of this installment.

Uncanny X-Men #4 - This book ties in nicely with Bendis' All New X-Men series. If you do not read the other series then this issue may feel slightly off in some places. However, if like me you read both series, then you should really enjoy this issue. It gave us a whole new look at the confrontation on the front lawn of the Jean Grey school, as it focused pretty much solely on the Stepford sisters; which I loved as I have never really much of these girls before.
We also got to find out a little more about the new mutants personalities, which is something that was really needed in this series. As I think I have mentioned in previous reviews, I have never really felt like I know these new guys. This issue changes that as I now feel like I know them a bit more, as well as feeling like I know how they may progress in the future too.

Comic Book Thoughts

Guardians Of The Galaxy #1 - I absolutely loved this book. I was very impressed with #0.1 when that came out last month, and I am very happy to say that this issue really does carry on where the introductory issue left off. Prior to last month I had never read any GOTG before, it had never really interested me, but now I am very much looking forward to the next issue. The dialogue and art were absolutely superb, and it does a great job at really getting new fans like myself involved.
I understand that this is getting negative reviews in some circles as some people believe that it is not catering enough to the more hardcore fans of these characters. However, I think this book really will be standing on its own two feet in a few issues to come. The naysayers may even change their minds about it.

Bedlam #6 - Great way to end the arc. I am very much looking forward to where this may go. Spencer is writing a great tale here, and I am certainly on board! HOWEVER, I may be saving the next arc for trade as I have a feeling it may read even better that way. Don't let that put you off picking this up if you have been following this series though; it is still a great issue.

Superior Spider-Man #7 - This is still my favourite Marvel NOW! title. The series still seems to be getting better and better. I haven't heard of Cardiac before, and after this issue I am not pretty happy I found out about him here. I thought the fight between Cardiac and Spidey was pretty intense, and I cant wait to see how it will pan out in the end. Also, what a great scene at the end with the Avengers.

Mind The Gap #9 - I usually am not too keen on silent issue. I normally find them quite hard to get totally immersed in, and this one was the same at the start. However, when it became evident what was happening in it, I was completely hooked. This was superb. The issue literally did not need any words at all.
That's another thing, sometimes I think silent issues feel slightly forced, but this was suited this way of story telling right down to the ground. It looks like one of the more loved characters of the series may be in some pretty serious trouble. I just hope they don't make a mistake and kill her off too early; we will see. Also, we are promised a big reveal in the next issue and that is something that I really hope happens.

Action Comics #19 - I am absolutely gutted that this will be Diggles' only issue on this series. This story was great. The highlight for me was the characterisation of Lex Luthor. He was great in this issue, and I am looking forward to seeing more of him in this series.
I do agree with some reviews that argue that the whole plot to defeat Superman does seem a little used up, but I am still excited to see what happens nonetheless. I hope Daniels' writing will be as good as his art on this series. Yeah, this has been a series that I have enjoyed from the beginning really, but I have a feeling that this might really take off soon to become the title that a lot of people were hoping for.

Green Arrow #19 - I am still a big fan of this new GA written by Lemire. This particular issue was full of action, and it was great to see as much of Komodo and his daughter as we did. The big reveal of this issue was kind of ruined by the fold out front cover, however I am looking forward to learning the reasons behind these actions in future issues.
I still absolutely love the art in this book. I think that it suits the book  perfectly, and I advise everyone who hasn't seen this style yet to make up their own mind before taking note of some of the negative reviews surrounding it.

All New X-Men #10 - Bendis is sticking to the formulae of the entire series in this issue; which I suppose comes as a surprise to no one whatsoever. There is a lot of dialogue again here, but if you have been enjoying this series as much as I have so far, then you will certainly enjoy this issue.
I loved the reveal of the Uncanny X-men's plan in this issue, and I really cant wait to see just which member of the school will be joining them. I have a feeling who it is going to be, but we will just have to wait and see.
Still a great time to be an X-Men fan.

Age Of Ultron #4 - Still enjoying this series, however I am a bit confused about how this is going to make its issue quota. Still a lot of issues left, so I am expecting another kind of twist to be coming our way sometime soon. Another death in this issue, and I really liked the way that it was done. It was realistic as well as showing just what the good guys are up against in Ultron and his forces.

Uncanny X-Force #3 - I have been enjoying this series up to this issue, but I am a bit unsure now as to how much longer I will be following it. I enjoyed this issue right up until the ending; which I feel is leading the next issue into a direction I am not too keen on. This is still an enjoyable series, and I will reasses my thoughts on it after #4 has been read.

Avengers #8 Review

Firstly I am just going to start off by stating that I really can't believe that this series has reached issue 8 already. Just, wow. Companies are desperate to release number 1 issues in order to get new readers, then seems desperate to get as many issues out as possibly; which by their logic would mean less people would want to read them due to the high numbering. Oh well. The good thing about this series, regardless of being bombarded by issues, it is still a cracking series. Things really started to unfold in this issue, and some characters are starting to show their true colours.

Three quarters of this issue focused on the confrontation between the Starbrand and the Avengers. For whatever reason, mainly due to not reading solicits, I believed that this would all be pretty friendly experience. I really could not have been more wrong. A big battle soon erupted which helped to showcase some of the abilities Starbrand possesses; which look pretty awesome by the way.
We also saw some pretty awesome team work by Captain Marvel and Hulk; which also looked absolutely stunning. It was not just this scene that looked awesome, but the book as a whole looked amazing. The facial expressions were awesome, and I did find myself looking quite deeply into a lot of the panels.

The remaining quarter of this issue focused on Nightmask showing Starbrand exactly who he was and why he was here. I am going to be honest, some of this did go slightly over my head. I did understand it, but it did seem like quite a bit to take in. That is not a compliant by the way, I am just hoping that Hickman does not expect everyone to remember everything that they have read in future issues. If they keep up their impressive "previously" section then all should be just fine.
What was awesome about this scene was how it ended. Is Nightmask going to turn out to be baddie after all? It certainly looks like it at the minute. We also saw the reappearance of some of Hickman's newest bad guys on the last page too. I was starting to forget about them even though this is all linked to them in some way, so I am happy to see these guys back in the pages of the Avengers.

I know this series is not for everone; which is evident due to a lot of peoples opinions on the internet relating to it. However, I am still loving this series. I have a feeling some of the events may become lost on me in the future due to it bordering on being quite complicated, but I am enjoying the ride nevertheless. Unlike Morrisons' Action Comics run, which has thankfully come to an end, this is still fun. Not only that, it is keeping me completely engaged issue after issue. Yeah, I am a big fan of what is happening here, and I really can not recommend it enough. It is a series that is not afraid to make you think, which is something I am sure many people were not expecting from the Marvel NOW! Avengers series, but I think it is doing a great job at being itself.

Comic Book Thoughts

Revival #8 - Another great issue that just had so much going on. I really can't believe how much story Tim Seeley can get into one issue. It really is jam packed, but there is absolutely no filler in it whatsoever. This book had pretty much all of the characters that have appeared in this series so far, as well as a couple of new faces.
We learnt a bit more about some characters that we have not known too much about previously, such as Lester Majak, who is quickly turning into one of my favourite characters. I really can't wait to find out the truth about that man.  I also think, but don't hold me on it, that the mayor is a new character. Don't recall him being in this series, so I am looking forward to see exactly what he is hiding.
This was just another great issue, and one that fans of this series will just lap up. Good work guys.

Supergirl #18 - H'el on Earth is over so now Kara can go back to her own story lines *YAY*. This book has been consistently good since the start, so I am very excited to start reading about solely Kara once again.
This issue sets up the fact that her powers will most probably be temperamental in the future. It also looks like she is getting taken in by the government in this issue, which is something that confused me as I don't understand why they all of a sudden have an issue with "supers". However, confusion aside, it still looks interesting. Add the fact that apparently Power Girl seems to be getting involved in things in the next issue; and we have quite an intriguing little story ahead of us. This issue wasn't exactly ground breaking stuff, but it did do a nice job at setting everything up, and getting me very excited for #19 in a months time.

Wolverine #1- This book came out a couple of weeks ago and I haven't read it due to being scared that it was going to be crap. I finally read it tonight and I can safely say that I surprisingly really enjoyed it. I am desperate, like many others, for a great Wolverine title come out. I don't know if this is it yet, but it sure got off to a great start. I enjoyed the characterization of Wolverine, and the story is intriguing me. It may still turn out yet to be utter crap, but so far I have liked what I have seen. Definitely will be picking up the next issue, and crossing my fingers hoping it will be as great as this. 8 / 10

All New X-Men #9 - Awesome issue. Everything linked together beautifully in this chapter. I loved the appearance of Lady Mastermind almost as much as I love the plot that broke her. This issue also did a great job at highlighting the younger Xmen' age difference. You can tell mentally that they are nowhere near as mature as their older counterparts; which is largely due to them not having gone through a lot of what the older guys have gone through yet. Bendis' dialogue was spot on as always here. Oh, and Jean Grey is becoming more awesome every issue. 8.4/10

Age Of Ultron #3 - I am still enjoying this series, however I thought this issue didnt really go anywhere. Most of this issue surrounded the question of who was going to be traded to Ultron; which was an answer we already knew. Thankfully Bendis' dialogue in this book is pretty awesome, and the reveal at the end also came out of nowhere, meaning that this issue ended up being above average. 7.4 / 10

Fatale #13 - This was just outstanding. I think this is the last of the one and done issues; and if that is the case then Brubaker and Phillips really made sure that they finished them with a bang. This one followed a woman named Bonnie, and was set in the wild west. It really was just great. This is how you do a one off issue which totally immerses the reader into the story. Great stuff. 9 / 10

Superior Spider-Man #6AU - Meh, this was ok. I was going to skip it but for some reason I thought it was still a Slott issue...I was wrong. I am enjoying this crossover event as I mentioned earlier, however this issue can be missed. It highlighted the fact that Doc Ock is in Peter Parkers' body, and that is all really. Oh, and the fact that he started the book hating on the Avengers, and then ended it with the understanding of why Parker is involved with them. As I mentioned, this was just ok. 6.6 / 10



As you guys can tell, I have not really updated this blog much over the last couple of weeks. I have been horrendously busy with work so I have had no time whatsoever to dedicate to reviews. I am still reading comics and keeping up to date with goings on, but I am just about a week behind at the minute. Due to this, I will be updating my blog with "comic book thoughts" posts for the next couple of weeks. Towards the end of April I will start writing full on reviews again ( I may even sneak in a couple a bit sooner ).

Just thought I would let you guys know what is going on. Hope all is well with everyone.

Daredevil #24 Review

Here we are once again with one of my most anticipated books each and every month; Daredevil. Waid and Samnee have been doing such a great job on this from day one, and I am sure they have got many more readers are producing a new reader friendly issue recently. This issue does not do too much in moving the current story arc forward, but what we do get is an interesting book with lots of good character moments; along with some very well placed humour.

So we kind of see the person who is behind this whole plot to take down Matt, however, I do not know who it is. If what we saw in this issue is a hint, then I am unfamiliar with the character. However, it still freaked me out slightly, and I am desperate to know more to find out exactly ho it is and why they are doing it.
In this issue they sent a crate of dogs that had been made radioactive to try and take Matt down; failing of course.There wasn't too much to this battle, but of course it angered Matt that this person could get to him so easily. I did like the way that this battle ended as it saw Matt defeat them in a pretty clever way. Simple yet effective.

After the last issue in which we learned about Foggys' condition, we had a couple of scenes that were very Foggy and Matt heavy; which was perfectly fine with me. I liked the dedication that Matt showed to him, which is to be expected, as well as us learning that the illness may not be terminal. After last issue I really thought that that was it for the poor guy, but now Waid has given himself the chance to prolong this a bit more. I am looking forward to a whole " will he, won't he" style theme in respect to this plot line in the future.

Another plot point of this issue was the relationship between Matt and Kirsten. Matt went to see her in order to try and end things, but it was Kirsten who ended up putting her foot down. Matt is now pretty confused about his feelings towards her. I am not too sure how I feel about Kirsten still. I mean, I do like her, but I really think she may need to be in the book more like she was in this issue. Some of her dialogue here was pretty great, and I wish we could see more of that. However, I do appreciate the fact that it is pretty difficult to get her page time with everything else going on in this book. This particular scene also had the best humour of the issue. I am hoping we see more of Kirstens' new boyfriend, if only for some decent one liners aimed at him by Matt.

As I said, the plot didn't really move forward much until the last page, however this was still an utterly enjoyable issue.If you have been enjoying the series then you will more than likely enjoy this issue too. The action may have been toned down, but the writing was just as good as ever. I find it a shame though that Waid can't seem to recreate his form here on his Hulk book. A Hulk book written like this would be awesome. Oh well, never mind, this Daredevil is more than enough for me.

Superior Spider-Man #6 Review

This series, for the last couple of issues, has finally started to be what it was supposed to be from the very start. Slott is starting to really get into the character, and the development has been amazing. This issue is no different, as we start to see more of Doc Ock's nasty side come out. Not only that, but a certain group of superheroes are becoming very concerned over Spidey's actions.

This issue started as making me think it was just going to be a one and done. Jameson ordered Spidey to take down Screwball and Jester after he got embarrassed by them in public. I was under the impression that he was going to do that and then that would pretty much be it. Oh how very wrong I was.
Before he took them down, we were shown Doc Ock back at college, where he harmed a couple of bullies for the way they treated his friend Anna Maria. This was once again a quite aggressive way of dealing with a problem, so we were once again reminded of the fact that this is how Doc deals with things. We were not actually shown him dealing with these guys, but we were still given a pretty good idea as to what happened. This actually shocked me, and I am glad that Slott is starting to be consistent regarding his toughness used on certain enemies.

We were then shown how he eventually dealt with the two pranksters, and let me tell  you, he didn't let them off lightly. The thing is, all of this was being broadcast live on the internet, so I am looking forward to see what I expect to be a bit of a backlash towards Spider-Man from the public.
This is the number one reason this issue surprised me; the fact that now the public at large are more familiar with the way Spidey is now dealing with his enemies. It has opened up a can of worms that I am sure are going to make some problems for Doc.

As touched on earlier, a certain super group were discussing how to deal with Spidey. This was once again something that I was not expecting to see. I am happy that they have picked up on the fact that he is acting totally out of character. I had a feeling with this series that it would take everyone ages to pick up on things, but Slott seems to be doing everything perfectly regarding this. The next issue, where it looks like Spidey gets confronted by these guys, will be very interesting. I really can't wait to see this stand off / discussion take place. I really wonder hoe Doc will be able to control himself in a situation like that, but I am just going to have to wait and see.

I am absolutely loving this series at the minute. I am even becoming a fan of Ramos' art too. Everything just seems to be clicking at the moment with this, and I really think Spidey fans who abandoned this when it first came out are missing out big time.
 I really recommend this issue, as once again we have seen some important character development. Some people may read up on the plot and decide to skip it; but honestly, pick it up. It is a great little story, and some of the outcomes in it will be having an effect on Docs' future. Definitely not just a filler issue.

Comic Book Thoughts

Colder #5 - What a fantastic little series this has been. Absolutely loved this last issue, in which the art was the best we have seen. Nimble Jack also really came to the forefront in this issue, and was even more terrifying than we first thought he was. The way this book ended was also unconventional, as I had a set last page in my mind as to how I thought it would end. This turned out not to be the case, which leaves me wondering if we have seen the end of Colder? Even if we have, the ending still rules.
Last week I wrote how I was not too impressed about how Happy ended. Colder goes a long way in showing that this is how you close out a mini series, so Morrison et al should take note. Superb. 9. 2 / 10

Sex #1 - I am really not to sure what to make of this issue. I mean, I did think it was fantastic after I finished it, but there really was a lot of questions and nagging doubts I had in my mind. There were bits of the back story left out from this issue, which I am sure will be told to us in some form in the future, however it did leave me frustrated in parts.
 Revival gives me lots of questions every month, but it is done in such a way that I do not mind it at all. Sex did it in a way that was frustrating as I felt like some of the details really should have been filled in. Saying that, it was still a great read, and I do really want to come #2 to come around as soon as possible. 7.8 / 10

Mara #3 - I was going to drop this book, as I was under the impression that I was not too sure on the first two issues in this mini. However, on the bus on the way to my LCS I was thinking about the first two issues and realised that I actually did like them quite a bit; hence why I couldn't help but pick this one up. I'm glad I did because this issue rules. I love development that has gone on in this issue, and all of a sudden we can see how Mara herself will be used in the future. This is a very solid issue that has left me desperately wanting the next instalment in my hands right now. What is great is that I also think Wood and co will be picking up the pace even more in the remaining three issues. 8.9 / 10

Superman #17 - Here marked the end of the H'el on Earth story line; which is something that I have very much enjoyed. However, this concluding issue was something that left me feeling a little underwhelmed. I did like the way H'el was defeated, and I was glad it was a certain character who ended it all, but the build up to that just was not good enough for me. Everything just felt a little bit flat. I have been enjoying this Superman title for what it is, but it would be nice if the quality of it did improve to catch up with the likes of Batman at DC. 6.8 / 10

Daredevil End of Days #6 - This is still an absolutely awesome series; however I feel like it didn't really go anywhere with this issue. If this was an ongoing series then an issue like this would be fine, but unfortunately it only has two more issues left now and I the pressure is now on. The appearances of Owl and The Purple Man were nice enough, however they didn't really add much. The Punisher is now getting heavily involved, but I am still unsure as to what his role will be in the grand scheme of things. The art was still amazing like always, and the story was still way better than a lot of things out at the minute. However, I just feel that a lot needs to happen in the next two issues. Oh well, in Bendis and co we trust! 7.3 / 10


Katana #2 - This was just horrible. Not touching this series anymore that's for sure. I was very impressed after the #1 issue, but this was just terrible. I am not interested in Katana or the rest of the cast at all in this series. I do, however, looks forward to reading her in JLA; where hopefully she will be written slightly better than in this. Save your money folks, avoid. 3 / 10

Thor God Of Thunder #6 - This was a great issue and was definitely an improvement on #5; which I thought was good but just not as good as the series has been. In this issue we saw how Gorr has become the thing that he is. It made us feel sympathy towards him, as well as giving us some real understanding into what he is doing. I really liked this as now I feel like I actually KNOW the character. An issue like this can sometimes go wrong, but Aaron really knocks this one out of the park. Do not skip this one if you are following this series.. 8.4 / 10

Wolverine and the X-Men #26 - A solid issue, however I was not amazingly interested in the content. Not read much about Dog before (Wolverine's brother), and this issue didn't do a great deal to get me interested.  Nick Bradshaw missing on art is also a bummer. Good enough though, and I am looking forward to hopefully seeing more of the kids in the next issue. 7.2 / 10

Fearless Defenders #1 and #2 - Great issues. Not familiar with the characters at all, but thus series is a great way to get into them. Very good plot so far too. Looking forward to #3 coming out soon. 8.6 / 10

Saga #11 Review

This issue has taken the same route as the last few have done. It firstly showed us a glimpse into the past of Alana and Marko, before hitting full stride with events happening in the present. I am loving this kind of set up, and I am just still loving this series in general. It is still an absolute monster of a book, and this chapter was of the same quality of all others that had come before it.

I loved the first section which showed Alana and Marko sharing an intimate moment; that looks like it may have been the moment that created their daughter. The conversation between the two of them after this event was awesome to read as it was just so very human. I am sure many of us have had conversations of this kind with people, and due to scenes such as this, we connect to these characters even though they aren't human.
I really loved some of the language Alana used in this scene. It was something I wasn't expecting, which made me actually laugh out loud at one point, and it also made me fall in love with the character even more. Fiona Staples also maintained her record of shocking us with a first page spread, showing us things that we certainly do not expect to see on the first page of comic books. No complaints coming from me regarding this by the way as I believe it helps make this series what it is.

We then moved on to events in both ships, as they were attempting to get away from the planet that is sucking them in from last issue. So you may think that there has not been much progression in this issue then; but you would be very wrong. For one, a character that I thought got killed off at the end of last issue actually got saved in this issue; which is something that made me very happy.
There was also a very emotional part of this scene that I am sure will have effects on these characters for quite some time. However, I am slightly disappointed that the creators decided to go this way with one of the characters, as I think that he could have stayed with us for a while longer. Oh well, I am sure these guys know what they are doing, so I am not going to dwell on it too much.

After the emotional part of the scene was done with, we saw Marko have a flashback that was all in his native language. However, it was clear what it was showing, as well as clear as to what was being communicated ( even though we don't know the language). This once again shows just how great this team are together at getting their story across. I am sure everyone reading this saw exactly what was happening here. I was shocked that I understood it so well; but I guess I should have expected such great story telling considering it is the best series in comics at the moment.

This was yet another very solid issue. I can't actually imagine a time where this book will actually have a bad issue. It is just so consistent, but not only that, it just has a winning formula. If these guys are smart, then this book will be staying fresh for quite a while yet. For those people who have been in from the start of this book, you will love this issue like all the rest. Get a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy this issue.

Uncanny X-Men #3 Review

I am a big fan of this series so far, and after last issue I was very excited to see what was going to happen between Cyclops and the Avengers. We did not get a big fight scene; which to be honest is something that I was not holding high hopes for anyway. However, what we did get was some great dialogue, along with an argument that Scott Summers actually came out on top of. Yes you heard that right. Maybe the man is not as crazy as we all first thought.

Bendis has been building up the fact that Scott Summers actually has a pretty good argument for some time now. However, in this issue it really came to the forefront. I found myself agreeing with a lot of what he was saying; which I am sure many other fans found themselves doing too. He came across as the good guy who is being completely misunderstood, not just by the world but also the Avengers as well.
Speaking of the Avengers, in this particular issue they were written to come across as complete assholes. Ok, maybe that is a little bit too strong, but they were totally single minded in their understanding of what Scott and his gangs intentions were. They also seemed more than happy to ignore true facts that Scott was bring up to them. I understand that Bendis wrote them this way intentionally in order to get Scott across in a certain way, so I did love the way that this worked. However,I am hoping that the Avengers don't continue to think in this way for a prolonged period of time. The members are not stupid, so I hope it doesn't get to a point where I feel like screaming at the pages at them.

Magneto also came forward in this issue to admit that he was the one who told the Avengers where to go to confront them. I am glad this came out here as it was quite obvious who it was. Leaving this unanswered for a few issues would have been the wrong move; so I happy with what I read here. However, something I was not expecting, was the fact that Magneto seems to be playing SHIELD. I was not expecting this at all, but it does make sense. Bendis really has pulled off something here, and I am looking forward to seeing how this is going to develop.

One of the new recruuits of Scotts team, Eva Bell, came to the forefront here too. It was nice to get a brief glimpse into her past, and I also enjoyed the scene in which she not just stuck up for her leader, but also helped in stopping a big battle from breaking out in front of her own home.
One of the things I did not like in this issue, which is unusual as I usually like the way Bendis does this, was the constant humour throughout. Normally I think that this is really well placed, but here I thought it all felt a little forced in places. As I say, it is something I am normally a fan of, so it is not something I am too concerned about.

This was another great issue in which Scott has come across in very well. I am very happy this has happened because I have not been the biggest fan of Marvel turning him into a complete baddie. The end of this issue also leads me to believe that may hear another big speech from him in the next issue; which is something I am also looking forward too.
This series continues to be great, and as I have mentioned earlier, this is a very exciting time to be a fan of the X-Men. If you didn't pick this title up because you were frustrated that it was being rebooted yet again; then I really advise you to have a change of heart. The character development, along with the foundations being set for the future of the team, are things that just can't be missed.

Age Of Ultron #2 Review

I was pleasantly surprised with the first issue of this, so I was eagerly anticipating the next instalment. I was not let down at all as right here we have another very solid issue that focuses mainly on character development; whilst also showing how bleak the future looks for our heroes.

The start of this issue is actually my favourite scene in the whole book. In it we see Black Widow sneaking through a demolished San Francisco looking for supplies. Whilst doing this she encounters a normal man who acts totally out of character. The writing and art immediately tell us that this guy would not even think of doing something like this before the world fell apart; which means that what happens to him really comes as a bit of a shock. It shows how people that at one point were Avengers are now no better than normal human beings. Everyone is doing their best to survive, and it has really become a dog eat dog America.

The second half of this book focuses on Peter Parker and the super heroes that saved him back in New York. Once again, the writing is absolutely fantastic here; giving us some real insight into how this has effected certain people. Peter, for one, is absolutely distraught. I love how we got a look back as to what he saw when Ultron first attacked. It showed how big the scale of the assault was, as well as just how powerless these guys were against him.
A very good point was brought up by an Avenger concerning Peter  possibly being sold to Ultron. This got a certain character thinking which ultimately led to their first line of the series. The plan that is going to be set is quite obvious, and it is pretty much confirmed by the sneak peak of the cover for #3, but is still a LONG way to go in this crossover so I am really excited to see just how this big plan to defeat Ultron will go wrong.

Once again I think this is another solid issue in a crossover event that I am now very excited for. Bendis is doing a great job here at slowly setting the scene, as well as introducing more characters. I read today that he has hinted that something big is happening half way through the series; which I can tell by the buildup already that whatever it is is going to feel massive. Even if you think this is an event that you don't fancy ( like I originally did ), I would still recommend picking up these first two issues and giving it a go. It has even made me tempted to pick up Fantastic Four #5 due to it being a tie in; and it is a book I don't normally get!

The Walking Dead #108 Review

Let me start of by saying one thing first: There was ALOT that happened in this issue. I always find TWD to be a really quick read due to the way it is set up, as well as it being one of my favourite titles too probably. So, I was very very impressed at the amount of meaningful content there was in this issue. Everyone was excited to get out first look at Ezekial, but we got tons more than just that.

Starting with Ezekial, I think I am going to like this character quite a bit. In this one issue alone we were introduced to his "kingdom", and we also got a really good feel of what he is all about. He really does feel like a leader; and one that you want to have for sure. He seems to be quite a calm kind of guy, but also someone who isn't afraid to rise up when things are happening that shouldn't be. Oh, and he has a massive tiger too; which instantly makes him pretty cool to me. So it looks like Ezekiel  along with Ricks' crew, will be going up against Negan very soon, and I really can't wait for it to happen.

Also in this issue one of Negans' biggest supporters seems to have turned his back on his leader. I really enjoyed how this was teased in the opening scene of this issue. This particular scene also did a great job at getting across once more just how much of an asshole he can be. I am surprised no one has gone against him sooner, but then again, everyone is absolutely terrified of him; which is very easy not just to see, but also to believe. I am very much looking forward to getting to know more about this traitor. We have seen him before of course, but I am looking forward to hopefully seeing a different side to him.

My favourite scene of the whole issue has got to be the one involving Michonne and Carl fighting walkers. Carl started over overly confident, however something happened during this brief encounter that made him realise that he isn't all that after all. What I loved about this scene was seeing just how much Carl has grown and developed. He never looked out of place at all, and it was very easy to imagine him as a future leader. Then, all of a sudden, he was back to being the young boy. I loved all the self doubt here and I hope it is something Kirkman will leave lingering for a while. After all, it does make sense considering he is only a boy. We can't forget how experiences like this will probably affect him more than it would the adults.

I was very excited for this issue due to the tease of the introduction of the new character. What we got here was a lot more than that; as well as being slightly unexpected. There was some fantastic character development here, not just on the above characters mentioned, but also a few more in smaller scenes in this issue. I love how focused Kirkman still is on doing things like this. It is his baby and it is clear that he is still taking care of it in the same way as he has been from day 1. Charlie Adlards' art was also even better than usual in this issue. It truly is a great instalment, and one that I am sure TWD fans will enjoy as much as I did.

Batman #18 Review

So, Death of The Family has finished, so lets see what Synder and Capullo had for us in #18. What we saw was another appearance of a couple of new characters that Scott introduced quite a few issues back now. I was very pleased to see Harper back in a Batman issue, and I think the way her character devloping is very intriguing indeed. If you read a lot of reviews on this then you may be tempted to give this issue a miss; but I really highly recommend it a go. Why is that I hear you ask? Will carry on reading and I will tell you.

As mentioned in the intro, we got to see more of Harper in this issue; which is an amazing thing. When she was first introduced a few issues back I really didn't think that we would be seeing her any more. However, when I opened up this issue I was very pleasantly surprised to see her on the first page. We get told what she has been doing for the last few months; which by the way is something that I really liked. It was a great way of showing you just how she has changed over the last few months; meaning we saw exactly how much of a bad ass she is becoming.
I also like the introduction of her and her brothers father in this issue. It adds another layer to the family, and also goes to show just what they have been up against their lives. They are both youngish guys who seem to have some deep personal demons. One of these demons was shown here, and I am really hoping that we will be seeing more of him in the future.

Batman in this issue was also something else. He is still adjusting to the fact that Damian is not in his life anymore; meaning that the bad guys are having a bit more of a harder time than they are used to when dealing with him. I like the way Snyder wrote Bruce here. Admittedly we have seen this before quite a few times, but it is still something that I do enjoy reading. An angry Batman not thinking straight is always good fun.

The last part of this issue saw Harper trying to make Batman change his ways; as she could see that he was destroying himself. Her little speech was rather cheesy, but I think it still fit in quite nicely. It was clear that it gave the caped crusader something to think about, which will mean we will be seeing a different kind of hero next issue no doubt.

I really really enjoyed this issue. Harper is absolutely fantastic, and I am hoping that at some point in the near future Batman will take her under his wing. He mentioned in this issue that it is something he will not be doing, but I am hoping that something will change his mind soon. I am not sure of what Synder's plans are for Harper and her family, but I cant see him developing her for no reason. I guess we will have to see.
This issue needed to be done to show how Batman was dealing with his loss, and I do think everything was handled very well. I am, like everyone else, very excited for #19 where we will be kicking off a brand new arc. Don't be put off by mediocre reviews surrounding this book. Pick it up!

Age Of Ultron #1

I was giving to give this event a miss. It is written by Brian Michael Bendis so naturally it is something that I would want to read, but I instead planned to read this in trade form. However, after seeing the cover in my LCS, I just had to pick it up. My whole curiosity just got the better of me; so I really could not resist it.

 The most I knew about this character / series was the fact that he hates humanity, and that this book focuses on a world that has been destroyed by Ultron himself. This interested me, but as I mentioned earlier it was not enough to make me buy it. However, after reading it, I can say that I think this setup is just great. I love how there are only a small amount of Avengers left in the world, and how massive the task at hand really felt in this first issue. They have a massive job ahead of them if they are to defeat Ultron, and I am struggling to see a way in which they can do so.

So, the setup really interests me now, but it is not just that that has got me excited in this series. What I was surprised at was how at each others throats the remaining super heroes are. For some reason I still expected them to be a really strong force, with lots of plans surrounding defeat Ultron. This is not what we saw in #1 at all. They are alive, but only just, and it seems to be like they have given up hope. The last page of this issue showed us that even the one man who you would expect to still be in one piece mentally, is really struggling to comprehend what needs to be done. If he is not with it, then it easy to see why everyone else seems to be crumbling around him.

I don't really want to say too much about this issue, as it mainly focuses on character development in setting up what point we are at now with these people. I never want to spoil things too much, and I feel that if I go into details about what was said, then I would essentially be telling you guys exactly what happened in this book. What I can say though is just how impressed I was in this issue. I am now going to be picking up pretty much everything related to this crossover event. Bendis has won be over, and I really can't stress enough how much I think you guys should check this issue out.

Green Arrow #18 Review

As I mentioned in the review of #17; I only really got into this due to the fact that Lemire was jumping onto this book. I enjoyed #17 massively so was rather excited to read #18. I knew I would not be let down going into this after getting a taste of the new direction of this series from the last issue, and now I am just even more excited for #19 to come out. It looks like this is fast becoming one of DC's best series.

It becomes apparent very quickly in this issue just how much trouble Oliver is in. He is being framed with the murder of someone who worked for his company; so he is now on the run attempting to find the guy who put him in this situation. This is when we get introduced to Mr Lacroix who owns Stellmoor. I am unaware as to whether this character has appeared in this title before or not; but I can safely say that he had a big affect on me in this issue. He comes across as pretty creepy throughout, and his relationship with his daughter looks like it will be something to keep an eye on too. It is pretty creepy; which as we know is what Lemire does best.

What was great about this issue is the fact that gave us answers to many plot points that had formed from #17. This is a story line that is full of mystery; so giving us readers some answers in this issue was very wise. It could have been far too easy for this story line to become over complicated by a lack of answers. This is something I am sure Lemire knew, so even though there are some questions coming out of this issue; I feel sufficiently satisfied with what I learned from this issue at the same time.
We are left wondering if it was always Olivers' destiny to be stuck on the island for a year of his life. The revelation in this issue is huge, and although it feel very much like the TV show "Lost",I really cant wait to see how this is going to develop in the future.
A question that this issue leaves us asking is: "Who the hell is Magus?". He seems to have a massive hold on Lacroix, and he seems to have a pretty good understanding of who Emerson and Olivers' father were. He is ordering Oliver to go to a certain place, and judging by the fast forwards that have been presented to us, it looks like he finally does end up doing so. I wonder what this guy knows? I cant wait for it all to come out at some point.

This issue was great. I was excited to read it; while at the same time also hoping that Lemire could keep me interested as this is a series I really want to get into. Lemire certainly succeeded here, and I really think that this series has an amazing future ahead of it. The set up that Llemire is doing here is just amazing. He has shook things up a bit by the potential death of a pretty important character which I am sure some people will not be fond of; but on the other hand, he is building something here that I am sure new and old readers of the series alike will be very excited about.

All New X-Men #8 Review

This series has been a massive win for me so far. As some of you guys know I missed the first few issues initially before all the good press made it just too good for me to ignore; and I can honestly say that there has not been one bad issue in this run thus far. This issue teased the young X-Men meeting the present day Avengers; so you can imagine my excitement going in to reading it. My excitement ended up to be totally warranted too.

Three quarters of this issue was made up of past Angel and current day Angel battling Hydra as they were attempting to burn the Avengers tower down to the ground; all while the Avengers were nowhere to be seen.  I enjoyed this part of the issue; especially the way the two Warren's were with each other. Warren, for me anyway, is a member of the X-Men that I have never been overly excited about. However in this issue I really liked the dialogue coming from both versions of the character; which just shows how well written this series really is.

Next up in this issue was the confrontation between the Avengers and these young X-Men. To be honest it was not what I was expecting as I was expecting everything to be slightly more heated. However, as mentioned in the above paragraph, this book is just so well written; which means I really don't mind if things don't get too heated.
Put it this way, this scene consisted of a conversation between Hank and Cap, and we heard pretty much none of it due to Kitty and Bobby mocking the conversation. They had a conversation between them; whilst taking up the roles of Hank and Captain America. This was not only immensely fun to read, but also to look at; due to the fact that Marquez is a God at nailing facial expressions. I found myself with a big smile on my face as I was reading through this scene.
Jean Grey also had a very nice moment at the end of this issue; which followed a very well constructed rant by young Warren. It has become clear in previous issues that he has been struggling to get to grips with what exactly he becomes in the future; so everything came out regarding that in this issue.

Overall, this may be one of the best written comic on the stands at the moment. Bendis has a great feel for every single character that he writes. No wonder he has quite a few X books on the go at the moment. This is a massive time for the X-Men, and it is great to see that they have the right man behind them in moving forward. If you are a fan of these characters then I strongly recommend you guys get involved with this series. Yes at times there may not be much action involved; but all that is forgotten due to the fantastic character moments throughout each and every issue.

Bedlam #5 Review

I have been a fan of this series from #1, and I have really been enjoying the way it has been growing as of late. Some of the smaller characters are really starting to come to the forefront, and it seems to be going into a direction with this story arc that I really did not see coming; which means that this is becoming one hell of a book.

Once again, like previous issues, this had two different plot points running throughout it. The first of these being in the present day as Fillmore works with the police department in order to track down the killer. The second plot point focused on Madder Red and his treatment by the doctor that we still do not know too much about.
I am a big fan of how even though there are two plot points running through these books, they do run very smoothly along with each other. They also tend to relate like they did in this issue. Also, normally when this method is used, there can be one story that is less intriguing than the other. However, in this series there is no such thing as that. The past is just as exciting as the present; and I guess right there is why these issues are such great reads.

The whole question, or theme if you like, surrounding this particular issue is reformation. We have been led to believe that Fillmore is fully reformed, but some of his actions towards the end of this issue has made us now question that. The ending of this issue has not just led us to question what we thought we knew about the character, but it has also created a very interesting scenario that I am sure will be explored in the next issue.
I am also looking forward to finding out more about his past. We have been left to believe that the Dr who was reforming him was doing it on his own orders. This issue has questioned that; leaving us wondering just who the hell is behind it.

As always with this series, both story and art were exceptional. The art by Riley Rossmo is so very unique, meaning that it is instantly recognisable. It also still suits this book perfectly which I am sure I have mentioned before in previous reviews of this series. I know that some people may not like this series due to it being something that I don't think anyone expected it to be. However, if this is something that you have read then I advise you not to be put off by it. Pick up these first 5 issues, as well as the next, and make up your own mind with this story arc. I know it is not for everyone, but I can guarantee that if it is your sort of thing then you will love it.

Superior Spider-Man #5 Review

I said this when I reviewed #4, but it really does feel like Slott is settling in with this series. I don't think it is just Slott who is settling in though, as I think the readers are finally starting to understand what this new Spider-Man is all about. This issue focused on Doc and his search for Massacre; which after last issue I could not wait to see how it was going to end. So how did it end for the baddie? Was he sent to the authorities or did Spider-Man cross a line he promised never to cross?

I thought the overall story telling in this issue was tremendous. The reasoning behind Massacre wearing a certain attire during his shoot out at Grand Central was brilliant. Touches like that are not normally found in comic books, as they are not expected to be there, however I loved the added detail found here.
We all knew going into this issue that Spidey would have a choice, and ultimately he did. I was desperate for him to go a certain way, and that is exactly the route that he took. I am loving the freedom that Slott has with the character, which I am sure he does too, so I am glad that we are still treading a fine line between good and bad. It suits the character as well as making an awesome tone for the book. However, he is not always doing bad, as at one point in this issue he was saving lives which he would not normally have attempted to do. The line is getting thinner!

Earlier on in the issue we were shown how the new and improved Spider bots have a face recognition system installed into them. This is something very worrying, and I am glad it got touched on at the end of this issue too. Doc Ock is now watching everyone at all times, which led to the final page of this issue. His last words in this were chilling; and I certainly cant wait for more development in this particular area in the future.

On a side note of this story we saw the introduction Anna Maria Marconi. I am not aware of this character, so I assume that it is a totally new one, which I am already wanting to see more of. Her and Doc seem to be hitting it off; so I wonder if these two may be getting even closer in the near future?

So, this little story has come to an end, and I really can't wait to see where we will be going next in the forthcoming issues. When this series first arrived it seemed like options going forward were limited, but now that has definitely reversed. I am loving the way Doc is developing as Spidey, and I am also very much enjoying Peter being there on his shoulder, which is surprising as I thought that this would ruin the whole "new" Spider-Man thing; which is has not done at all. If you want to read some great comic action then pick up #4 and #5 and I have a feeling you will be sticking with Superior for a while after.

Green Lantern #18 Review

Wrath of the First Lantern is going to be the last story arc by Geoff Johns on a Green Lantern book for the foreseeable future, and he is making sure that it is going to build up to an epic conclusion. It will be a sad day when #20 comes out and Johns leaves, however what he is producing with this book right now is as good as anything he has done on the series as a whole.

This particular issue focuses on Hal, Sinestro, and Simon as they are all stuck in the land of the dead. Only two of them can get out so one of them will be left there with no way of escape. The way this ended really shocked me, as I was convinced there was going to be a way round this problem, but there evidently was not one.
I also really liked the way Sinestro behaved during this whole scene. I am sure that he will backtrack at some point ( or maybe not ), but he seems very single minded with his approach to take take the First Lantern. It is clear that his idea will not work; but is this something he is going to realise before it is too late?

We also got a bit of a back story about Volthoom, the First Lantern. This helped make sense to some things that he attempted to do in the last issue. It also went a long way as to explaining just how powerful he is. I for one was not aware of how much power he possesses. He can literally reshape the whole universe into anything he wants, as well as reshaping the past. This may be common knowledge to some, but I couldn't believe it.

The art in the scene in the land of the dead was awesome. I loved the tone, which really did compliment the story, but unfortunately at some points I was really not sure as to who I was looking at. Sometimes characters would have their backs turned so it was hard to make out who exactly was speaking. This is only a minor problem, and it is not a big enough problem to make me have wanted the art to be any different in this scene.

Overall this was yet another solid instalment in the Green Lantern series. I really cant wait for the next two issues, as I imagine that the consequences and the stakes are going to be getting much bigger very quickly.
The score I am giving it may seem a bit low considering all the praise I have just given it, however I do feel that there does need to be a change. This book has gone right down the list of priorities with Johns; even though the issues remain consistently solid, I do think that they could be of higher quality like a lot of the issues in this current run. One thing is is for sure though; Johns is not going to go out quietly.

Comic Book Thoughts

Revival #7 - This was shipped late in the UK so I have only just read it. It was well worth the wait! A lot of things came together very nicely in this issue, and I thoroughly enjoyed the cliffhanger that it left us on. As usual it gave more questions than answers, but this does a great job at leaving plot lines open to be explored in the future. Em is one of my favourite characters and I really cant wait to see what kind of path she is going to go down. I have a feeling it is going to a very dark one. The good thing about this being one week late is that I have to wait one week less for the next issue! 8.4 / 10

Aquaman #17 - Great issue. Love the set up for the direction that this book is going to be heading in. I am excited to see him take down whoever is getting their hands on Atlantis weapons, as well as attempting to control an army that are not too sure about taking his commands.
The conversation between him and Waller in this issue was also interesting, and I am sure we will be seeing more development from Arthur regarding the last question posed by Waller. He seems to be in a lose lose situation at the minute, and I can see it taking some toll on him in the future. I was tempted to drop this book, but now I think I am going to pick up a couple more issues and see where it goes. The new status quo is something that really interests me, and the directions it can go in are pretty much endless. 8.4 / 10

Happy #4- Not too sure how I feel about this issue. It has been delayed, which I think has done nothing for the momentum this series had going into the final issue, and everything kind of fell a bit flat. I was not massively impressed by the big finale that I have been looking forward to since #1. I just don't think Morrison ended it the way I expected it to end. It felt huge throughout the first #3 issues, and this issue showed that it was no different to anything else we have read.
I am finding it quite hard to describe how I feel about this at the moment, but it was not a terrible issue at all, it was just not what I had hoped for. Maybe one day when I read #1-#4 straight through, I may feel slightly differently. It is still way above average anyway. 7 / 10

Star Wars #1 - I have just recently seen the original triology for the first time so I decided to pick up this issue and see what it was all about. Well, I am very glad I decided to get involved in this, as this was a really great issue. Big franchises in comic books never seem to do too well due to the books just not having the same feel; but I think that Star Wars this time around may be a bit different. It really did have the same feel to the original trilogy, and I think the whole premise for this first story arc is very strong indeed. I have ordered #2, and I really cant wait for it to arrive. 9 / 10

Saga #10 - This series continually pumps out amazing issues, and this instalment is no different. In this chapter we learn more about how our favourite couple got together. We also saw a pretty cool little battle in space; which unfortunately looks like it led to the death of a very well liked character. The first time I met this character, if you told me I would be upset at their death, then I really would not have believed you. The fact that the last page of this issue had such a big effect on me just shows you how great this series is. 9 / 10

Guardians of The Galaxy #0.1 - Never read anything to do with the guardians of the galaxy in my comic book career, but decided to pick this one up because Bendis was behind it. I am very very happy that I did do. Awesome origin story Star-Lord. Really cant wait until #1 hits soon. 9 / 10

Avengers #7 Review

As you guys who read my blog on a regular basis, you will know that I am a big fan of Hickmans' Avengers. However, I read reviews on this issue saying it may put people off due to how big a scale it is working on. I had visions of Morrisons' current run on Action Comics and I got very scared indeed. I was hoping that this would not be the issue that put me off the series, and it turns out that instead of putting me off, it has actually got me even more behind this book.

A lot of this issue was laying the foundations for what feels like an absolutely HUGE story. We were told about Superflows, which I have got my head around just about, as well as a Starbrand; who is the protector of Earth. Looking at this issue, not too much really happened, but it is the way Hickman explains everything for the readers that is really impressive. The issue never felt like he was stretching the plot out to fill one issue, which shows just how much he has nailed the pace of this series.

Hickman also has a great feel for every single character in this series, which is massively impressive considering just how many Avengers are involved in this title. Every character feels exactly how they should do, and I especially like this version of Stark. We see a lot more intelligent Stark who is less interested in his clever one liners, and more interested in working his ass off for the team.

I am still a bit unclear as to what the "White Event" is exactly, but I am enjoying the ride that this arc seems to be taking me on. The way everything is recapped at the start of each issue is also going to be of massive use for this series. Instead of doing it the standard Marvel way, this book includes full panels that have been in previous issues. It feels more like a recap at the start of a TV show than a comic book.
The next issue seems to be going into more detail about who exactly the Starbrand for Earth is. We saw who he was at the end of this particular issue, but I cant wait for Hickman to give us a more in depth look at this guy.

I imagine a lot of younger readers who picked up this series due to the film last summer will probably have dropped this by now. Hickman and Marvel have grown a pair of balls in taking the series in the direction that it is going in, and I sure hope comic book fans around the world are enjoying this as much I am.
