Colder #3 Review

The previous two issue of this mini series were tremendous. I think #1 was better than #2, but they were both awesome regardless. However, there was a big theme in the previous installments of leaving the reader with more questions than answers come the end of the books. It was frustrating me after the last issue that even though I was enjoying the ride; I did feel slightly lost. This issue, however, finally gives us some answers that we have been waiting for. We finally found out what Nimble Jack is, as well as what Declan has powers to do. Everything is starting to come together beautifully.

Nimble Jack. Oh, Nimble Jack. I called after #1 that this character was terrifying and reminded me slightly of Heath Ledger's Joker; well I was not too far off at all. This series is already very popular, and I can really see Nimble Jack becoming some kind of cult hero in the near future. The way he finished off a countdown near the start of the book just showed how horrifying he can be.

Once again, the other world looked stunning. In fact, this book as a whole looks absolutely fantastic. There are some panels that you just can not help but stare at. This series is the first time I have seen any of this artists work, but I will definitely be looking out for it in the future.

In this issue it has also become clear that Declan is in love with Reece. I assume there will be some kind of happy ending in two issues time, which I am looking forward to. I really don't think I could take a sad ending, which it could so easily do with this series. However, I think it will push me over the edge. After three issues I am massively invested in these characters, and I hope they come out the other side of this sane and normal.
Speaking of Reece; the last two pages of this book could have come straight out of a horror film. The art for hem was outstanding, and the tension in the car really jumped off the page. There is one panel where the desperation on Declans' face is so well drawn he looks like a real person.

I thought issue #2 of this series had taken its foot off the pedal slightly after an amazing #1. However, after reading this I can confirm that we are firmly back on track with this mini series. I am sure we will be given more answers in the near future to some questions, but things are starting to fall into place at last. If you guys want to read a horror book then look no further than this.

Thor God Of Thunder #3 Review

Jason Aaron continues the amazing form he is on right now with this superb installment of the Norse God. In it we see flashbacks of the younger Thor after his battle with the God Butcher, a long with present day Thor investigating the recent deaths of Gods.

This book was slightly like Avengers #2 in the way that the story flip flopped from two different times, and completely nailed it. Jason Aaron has created a book that could very easily be really confusing to read; but is instead an absolute joy, It is very easy to keep track of what is happening; which I am very glad about due to sometimes getting confused with these types of stories.

The arrogance of the younger version of Thor is fantastic to read about. His main concerns seem to be women and beer; as well as fighting of course. In a scene concerning the present day Thor, we were told by a different character how he used to behave when he came to visit him. It was fascinating to see the hatred pour out of this old mans body towards Thor, as well as seeing just how much the God of thunder has matured since that time. That is something else that is great about this book; you really can tell the difference between all three Thor's. You can tell it is the same guy, but it is someone has learned many lessons throughout his life as it has progressed. Credit once again needs to go to the great Jason Aaron who really seems to understand the character, and understand just how much a person can change in a lifetime.

The art was once again superb. It matches the book completely, and the mythical Gods that we see throughout the issue look stunning. The colors go a long way in helping with that, so credit must also be given to them also.

The last couple of pages of this issue have once again left me in baited breath waiting for the next installment where we will no doubt learn more about the God butcher, a long with the arrogance of young Thor. This book is a great read, and I really feel like I am learning a lot about a character who I have not really read a lot about previously.

Hawkeye #3 Review

I am going to be completely honest here. I have followed this series from the very beginning. However, I thought the first two issues were just OK. They both had rave reviews thrown at them from all directions, which made me feel like I must be missing something. This issue I believe I have finally found that something. For me, everything that Matt Fraction was trying to do has finally come together. Accompanied by David Aja's art, we have here an absolutely fantastic little story.

In similar fashion to the first two issues, we are thrown into a scene that is currently happening right now after having had no back story whatsoever. The rest of the issue then gives us the background, and then goes on to show what unfolds next. In the previous two issues I have felt a little confused by this. Of course I have read comics set out in this way before, but it felt a little bit muddled for me in this series. However, I think this time around the creative team have hit the nail on the head.
The issue flows brilliantly throughout. The script is very entertaining, and the art really works well along with it. The art is actually something that bothered me previously. I have always thought that it has been great, yet slightly inconsistent. In this issue though, it is just perfect. It almost feels like the team have finally got to a point where they know exactly what they both want to do after feeling each other out for the first couple of issues.

Now on to the characters that make up the story. Clint is a very very likeable character in this series. He is not afraid to take the mickey out of himself, and this self deprecating humour was a real highlight for me in this issue. He seems to enjoy putting himself down for whatever reason which is great to see, especially as he is a member of The Avengers. The dialogue between him and Kate is tremendous in this issue, and once again leads to a couple of comedic moments. Speaking of Kate, having previously been unsure about her place in the book, I am now very glad that she seems to be a constant character. After reading this issue, it feels like this book without her would be just wrong.

The way the story listed some of the arrows Clint carries was also very insightful. Of course, some of these were included just for fun, but it was interesting nonetheless. I also liked how the events in the issue were listed in the form of the 9 mistakes he made in that day. It helped the issue flow, and it made the issue feel like it could have been a 20 minute episode for a TV show. Or maybe that is just my take? Of course the bad guys in this issue should not be forgotten about. They were pretty harmless in reality, but the way they said "bro" after pretty much everything probably put a smile on everyone that has read this issue.

As you can see, I really enjoyed this issue. I went into it with the thinking that if I came out of it with the same feeling as I did with the first two issues, then I was going to drop it. Now after reading it, I think I may have to re-read those issues again. This is without a doubt my book of the week.
